Interview with Frédérique Herel Palmistry August 1, 2001
What is palmistry?
Palmistry is a science - i.e., a systematic study based on
observation, experiment and measurement - which has been effectively
used for thousands of years. It is based on the holistic principle that
our whole life is reflected in every part of our body. For instance,
iridology studies the eyes and palmistry analyzes the hands. As Kant
said, "The hand is the visible part of the brain."
Too often used as a fortune-telling tool, palmistry is actually much
more useful as a self-improvement system. Your hands show who you really
are, like a roadmap. A good palmist will be able to tell you what your
strengths and weaknesses are, and point you to the right direction in
order to find happiness.
How and why did you become involved in this?
I think I have always been fascinated by the ability to read
hands, but more as a game at first. However, in 1988, I lost both my
brother and my father within 3 months. The emptiness caused by those two
deaths led me to want to understand more about the meaning of life.
Ghanshyam Singh Birla, the Director of the Palmistry Center in Montréal,
and my teacher ever since, showed me that palmistry is a perfect tool
for self-improvement.
What is your goal or mission statement with respect to the services
you offer?
My goal is to help people understand themselves - and others
- better, and show them what they can do to find more balance, and
therefore more happiness in their lives.
How long have you been involved in this field?
12 years
How can getting a palm reading benefit a person?
An in-depth study of your hand by an expert palmist can give
you a wealth of information about you and your potential. I use
palmistry as a support - a diagnostic tool - to genuinely understand the
person. Then I give advice on what can be beneficial to him or her: for
instance, make good use of you great capacity to love (long heart line)
in order to deal with your anger issues (overdeveloped Mars negative);
or tap into your vast ambition which is presently not used (dark Jupiter
mount).
What can a person expect from a palm reading?
A reading lasts about an hour and starts with print-taking.
During the reading, I write notes and explanations around the prints,
which the person gets to keep. Those prints can be used as a reminder
for desirable changes, as well as for comparison purposes to see changes
over time.
Do the lines in your hand change over time and if so, what does that
mean?
YES, HANDS DO CHANGE! And this why palmistry can be
used for counselling. Your hands change depending on your thinking, your
attitudes, how you react to what is happening in your life, and how
determined you are to change.
One of the greatest benefits of palmistry is that handprints taken at
different times provide you with "Before" and "After" snapshots of your
personality. This is a great tool to chart your progress in mental
healing or attitude/habit reforming.
Often, people decide to come back for another reading one or two
years later, to see how well they are doing and what adjustments they
need to make. This is a fantastic way to see whether a specific mental
therapy is working.
How can someone become a palmist?
Since palmistry is a science, it takes a long time to learn.
Don't expect to become a good palmist in 3 months. However, you can gain
fascinating insights right away. For instance, I give palmistry seminars
to people who are totally new to palmistry, and they are immediately
able to apply what they learned in the seminar to their own hands and to
their families or colleagues. Of course, they are not palmists yet!
If someone is serious about studying palmistry, I would suggest they
take classes with The Palmistry Center in Montréal, which also offers
courses in residence at their Retreat Center in Quebec, as well as
correspondence courses. They taught me what I know.
